Sliding Scale PRICING

With Sliding Scale Pricing, we try to balance providing access to traditional medicines with respect for our own costs and labor.

We believe that everyone has a right to sustainably produced traditional medicines, household essentials and empowering self-care rituals, regardless of income, race, identities, immigration status, and background. This payment system is a part of our commitment to dismantling the injustice of an inequitable and predatory system while creating an affirming and supportive community.

The sliding scale is a tool that can increase accessibility to goods/services, get us all into the practice of recognizing where we have and don't have privilege, and allow us to care for each other.

How DOEs the Sliding Scale WORK?

Sliding scale pricing honors the fact that we all have different access to resources and can be a way for community to support itself. Simply put, people who pay on the higher end of the scale support people who pay on the lower end. This allows us, as farmers and healers, to provide herbal remedies, basic household essentials, access to small joys in life, and spells of self-care to more people. Paying on the higher end of the scale is an act of solidarity that recognizes that everyone deserves access to earth-concious products and the healing arts. And paying on the lower end can be a way to honor the limitations of your household. Read our guide below and try to be as honest as possible with yourself about what your household can afford.

This is intended as a guide for thinking about access and privilege: it is by no means inclusive. It is completely up to you to determine where you fall on the scale: you know more about your household economy than we do, and we take you at your word as to what you can afford without question or judgement. We will never share with others how much you pay.

Consider paying the Reduced or Solidary Rate if you:

  • are Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color

  • are undocumented or have immigration-related expenses

  • have high medical expenses not covered by insurance

  • have burdensome debt, tuition, and/or educational expenses

How to Use the Sliding Scale

The SUPPORTER RATE is intended for folks who are doing ok financially and who understand the importance of sharing the wealth. Folks with dependable and livable income, and those who have access to savings, assets, and generation and/or family wealth are always encouraged to pay this rate. If you answered yes to multiple points in the Supporter Rate guide, we would also like you to consider paying this rate if it honors the limitations of your household. If you are white, we would also encourage you to examine the ways in which our current society enables you to thrive and succeed, even when dealing with additional struggles. Paying the Supporter Rate can be a small way to help equalize the access to goods and services of those who do not benefit from this privilege. This rate reflects the retail list price of all of the items in our online store*. By paying this rate, you are supplying a living wage for the workers and healers involved in the process, allowing for investment in the growth and maintenance of the farm, and directly creating space for those at the Solidarity Rate. To access this rate, simply complete your checkout as normal, without entering any discount codes.

The REDUCED RATE is intended for folks who are able to meet their basic needs but who may have answered yes to one or more of the points in the Reduced/Solidarity Rate guide. It also may be a good fit for those who answered yes to a combination of the points in the Supporter/Reduced/Solidarity Rate guides. This rate reflects a 5% or 10% reduction on the retail list price of all of the items in our online store*, at the discretion of the customer. By paying this rate, you are contributing to supplying a living wage for the workers and healers involved in the process and helping to offset some expenses for those at the Solidarity Rate. To access this rate at the 5% level, enter the code RED5 at checkout. To access this rate at the 10% level, enter the code RED10 at checkout.

The SOLIDARITY RATE is intended for folks who are experiencing intersectional marginalization or who struggle to meet their basic needs. It is intended for those who have limited access to income and/or government financial support, who have no access to savings, assets or family wealth. This rate is also intended for anyone whose sole income comes from disability payments like ODSP. If you answered yes to one or more of the points in the Reduced/Solidarity Rate guide AND you are Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color, we HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to pay this rate. This rate reflects a 20% reduction on the retail list price of all of the items in our online store*. By paying this rate, all additional workers and healers involved in the process will still receive a living wage even if the owner chooses to offer their labor at a discounted rate. This rate is directly subsidized by any Dancing Goats Apothecary profits and by those paying the Supporter Rate. To access this rate, enter the code SOL20 at checkout.

*Pricing reflects the cost of materials and the labour invested into growing and preparing all of the remedies and products. From this, the owner receives a working class wage .

UNSURE? Do a Gut Check!

Stop and do a gut check. Do you feel any anxiety about the amount that you are choosing to pay. Why? Adjust the amount until you feel like you are in integrity and being honest with yourself about your means/boundaries/limitations. You can always adjust what you pay if you choose to purchase from us again.

We would like to take a moment to thank Abby from Foxtrot Herb Farm, who helped us by providing a multitude of resources, language, and insight as we were developing both our Sliding Scale Pricing and our Reparative Pricing. Abby, and their team, provide our apothecary with the majority of the herbs that we are unable to grow or sustainably forage from our own farm property. Abby is a passionate herbalist, a committed community activist, and a wonderful human-being. We are honored to count them as member of our community.

We would also like to thank Woven Roots Farm, Catalyst Community Herbals, and Snake Hair Press + Apothecary whose guides for sliding scale models and mutual-aid economies, helped shape our own.
